Continual Learning System

The core of any management system is efficiency and control, which can be achieved by continual learning. Before getting into continual learning, let me explain the fundamental control system which has four phases.

  • Algorithm or Plan Phase: During this phase an understanding is established between the cause and effect for identifying the drivers and levers which need to be actuated for achieving a goal.
  • Actuate or Do Phase: This phase is all about the actual actuation or doing.
  • Sense or Check Phase: Based on the actuation and doing there is always a change. This phase is all about sensing or checking these changes in the environment or ambience.
  • Correct or Act Phase: Based on the sensing there is always a gap between the intended and actual outcome, the key is to use the appropriate scale and magnification. During this phase the objective is to understand the gap and correct the gap and to act in updating the algorithm or the plan.

I chose to discuss this since, so much is being talked about Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Having been involved with Smart Manufacturing for decades, I am basically elaborating the control cycles as a basis for smart manufacturing and smart management

Let me use the grinding and polishing of a precious stone, as an example, to illustrate the control loop, the core of and Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0.

As you can see in this example, using a machine (not a human) to sense (check) and correct (act) is Smart manufacturing or Industry 4.0, which is using Hardware and Software technology for assisting to fully managing repetitive tasks within an Environment or Ambience!!! To accomplish this goal, the computational thinking (Decomposition, Pattern Recognition, Abstraction and Algorithm Design) of the four basic elements: Controlling (Planning), Actuating (Doing), Sensing (Checking) and Correcting (Acting) is essential. These cycles have evolved over time in companies already in the smart manufacturing and beyond phase, with a solid foundation of the basics.

We use these cycles corresponding to seven levels of basic business understanding for diving deep into businesses for supporting them with implementing smart manufacturing that makes business sense. I will be speaking of these seven cycles during my live streaming every weekday at 20:30 IST on LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube. You can check out later too by visiting our Videos Page.

  1. Hey would you mind letting me know which web host you’re
working with? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 different internet browsers and I must say
this blog loads a lot quicker then most. Can you suggest a good hosting
provider at a reasonable price? Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
